World’s 10 Most Famous and Expensive Motorcycles

($92,500)

Confederate’s $80,000 Black Flag is one seriously pricey bike, but it’s far from the most expensive.

Number ten on our list of the most expensive motorcycles in the world is the Black Flag’s stablemate, the Confederate B120 Wraith. It may not boast the most killer performance (125 hp from an air-cooled twin), but the U.S.-built Wraith’s assemblage of aircraft grade billet aluminum and carbon fiber make it a force to be reckoned with in area of eye-popping design.

All New Suzuki GSX-R600 and GSX-R750 for 2011

Suzuki has used Intermot Cologne to reveal its first new bikes for 2011 – the revamped GSX-R600 and 750 supersports. But similarly to the 2009 makeover the Gixxer 1000 received, the new middleweights are more evolution than revolution despite the fact that the designers essentially went back to the drawing board. All-new engines and drivetrains produce the same peak horsepower as this year’s model (that’s 123hp for the 600 and 148 for the 750) but significant efforts have been made to improve fuel efficiency and reduce power losses between the crank and the rear wheel.

The chassis and wheelbase of both bikes have been shortened, both bikes sport Showa’s fashionable and fully adjustable Big Piston forks and there’s a new and improved, radial Brembo monobloc braking system. The big news is that the Gixxer6 and 750 have gone on a pretty impressive diet, shedding 8 and 9 kilos respectively. It looks like a solid upgrade, if perhaps a little unexciting.

It’s harder than ever to pull off something really impressive in the 600-750cc supersports market; the >> Read More

2011 Harley-Davidson XR1200X – The X-Factor

It’s fair to say that Harley-Davidson racing development peaked in 1970 with the release of the iconic, instantly successful XR750. That platform, which continues to dominate dirt-track racing to this day, has made the XR prefix synonymous with Harley performance. That’s why The Motor Company’s hottest streetbike is branded the XR1200, and isn’t an XL1200 variation like its more conventional, baby-cruiser brethren. Now Harley-Davidson has deployed an additional X to create the XR1200X, upgraded with fully adjustable Showa suspension and higher-spec brakes. This is by far the sportiest Sportster yet.

Aesthetically, the X-model is mostly unchanged. The bodywork, drawn by industrial designer Mark Daniels in homage to the original XR750, is faithful in shape if not scale, and cleverly incorporates fresh-air intakes under the >> Read More
