2012 Ducati 848 Streetfighter Launching Soon

Due to be publicly unveiled at the world-leading Milan Show in November, the new bike – spied – is clearly in production-ready trim and borrows heavily from the bigger 1098 Streefighter with styling cues taken from the 748/848 sports bike series.

As can be seen here, the new 848 Streetfighter’s rolling chassis is based heavily on that of its bigger brother although suspension, brakes and other cycle parts are expected to be more basic, budget-priced items to keep the bike’s price down. However, an S version, with higher spec items is also likely to be offered.

The powertrain, meanwhile, is expected to be virtually identical to the 848 supersports machine but with possibly revised fuelling and gearing. The spy photo confirms that in keeping with Ducati’s tradition in the junior class, yellow will be offered as one of the colour options.

2011 Ducati 848 EVO Sportbike

Ducati has announced another EVO model release, with its 2011 Ducati 848 EVO middleweight sportbike. Like the EVO versions of the Hypermotard (2010 Ducati Hypermotard EVO First Ride) the new 848 builds off the base model, but features a higher-spec engine and performance-related additions, with the Italian marque citing feedback from AMA Pro Racing (where the 848 campaigns in the Daytona SportBike class) as well as consumer feedback.

2011 Ducati 848 EVO Sportbike

The Testastretta Evoluzione Twin gets a redesign, with Ducati swapping out new cylinder heads, pistons, throttle bodies and camshafts. While the Bologna-firm doesn’t divulge details on the new internal changes, it claims the mods up power to 140 hp @ 10,500 rpm and 72.3 lb-ft of torque at 9750 rpm. The standard 848 claims 134 hp at 10,000 rpm and 70.8 lb-ft at 8250 rpm, for EVO net power gaining six ponies and 1.5 lb-ft at higher rpm.

The 848 EVO chassis get performance help too, with a cross-mounted steering damper standard equipment. Wheels are covered with the latest generation Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tires, which replace the standard 848’s Dragon Supercorsa PRO. In the braking department, Brembo monobloc calipers round out the changes.

The rest of the changes are cosmetic, with the EVO available in “Dark” edition. What makes it Dark? We’ll let Ducati PR explain: “For 2011, a special “Dark” version will be available; which unlike “Dark” editions of Ducati’s past will be a truly black bike from front to rear, giving the motorcycle an aggressive look and attitude.”

Ducati Diavel is Expected Soon in India

Ducati is planning to launch two new models 848 Evo and 1198 SP in India somewhere in this year. Mirko Bordiga, Ducati CEO, Asia Pacific inaugurated the company’s third dealership outlet in the country in Ahmedabad is owned by the Cama Motors Pvt Ltd. Bordiga said that Diavel model would be available in the European and American markets by January or February 2011 and the same model would be launched in India by April next year, depending upon the time it takes to get the necessary clearances from customs and complete other formalities.

Ducati Diavel is Launching Soon in India

In 1964, Ducati dipped a toe into the large cruiser market with the mighty Apollo, a 1,256cc vee-four heavyweight designed to take on Harley-Davidson in the police market. The Apollo never made it into production, but 46 years later, its spiritual successor has appeared.

First, the stats: power output is listed at 162hp, with 94lb/ft of torque. There’s a slipper clutch to prevent rear-wheel lockup. Suspension is fully adjustable front and rear. The front brakes are 4-piston Brembo Monoblocs, and ABS is standard. Instruments are split between a bar-mounted display and a tank unit. And unlike most cruisers, the Diavel won’t break the scales. At just 207kg (456lb), it’s 15kg heavier than a Multistrada 1200 S Touring. And a remarkable 27kg less than the diminutive Harley Sportster 883 SuperLow. [Full specs in this PDF.]

At the back is that 8-inch wide rear tire, a subject of much speculation. So no, the Diavel won’t be as nimble as an 848 EVO. But Ducati will have worked hard to get the most out of the rubber, which is a state-of-the-art 240/45 ZR17 Pirelli Diablo Rosso II hoop.

There are two models: the stock bike, and a Carbon variant (shown here) that weighs 3kg less and sports a slightly upgraded specification, including Marchesini forged wheels.

The Diavel probably isn’t a make-or-break bike for Ducati. And warning shots have already been fired over its bows, with some Ducatisti believing that the Bologna brand should stick to the sportier end of the market. But the upside potential is enormous. The obvious parallel is the Porsche Cayenne SUV, another vehicle that stirred controversy during its gestation but went on to become a sales success.

Today, Ducati offers motorcycles in different segments. The prices of Ducati bikes in India range from Rs. 8 lakhs to Rs. 22 lakhs. Ducati is facing stiff competition from Harley Davidson, the American cult bike maker. With Harley-Davidson’s plans to assemble bikes in India, Ducati bikes will face pricing pressures.
