New 2012 Honda VFR1200F

The Honda VFR1200F gets new colours, a slightly tweaked engine, revised ride-by-wire throttle and traction control with C-ABS for 2012

Honda have announced some minor updates for the 2012 VFR1200F. ‘The engine now offers even greater performance, with significantly more refined torque between 2,000-4,000rpm. Changes to the PGM-FI fuel injection system, combined with increased tank capacity, mean the VFR1200F can now travel more than 300km on a single tank of petrol.

A more comfortable seat and the adoption of traction control [which works in conjunction with the bike’s C-ABS] further enhance the bike’s all-round capabilities,’ says a press note from Honda.

The 2012 Honda VFR1200F is also available with optional dual clutch transmission, which has been upgraded and is now supposed to offer smoother, seamless gear changes in any of its three riding modes. ‘Using two electronically controlled clutches, the system offers the choice of manual gear shifting and two fully automatic modes, one for general use (D-mode) and another for high performance riding (S-mode). The VF1200F Dual Clutch Transmission also features new software logic with added functionality,’ claim Honda.

With its bulbous styling and 277kg kerb weight, the VFR1200F is definitely no sportsbike, but its 169bhp, 129Nm V4, Honda-spec refinement comfortable long-distance ergonomics make it a decent sports-tourer and if anything, Honda seem to have improved the big VFR a bit for 2012.

New 2012 Honda Fireblade Superbike

These are the first photos of Honda’s 2012 Fireblade. Besides the new angular styling, the bike has Big Piston Forks, new rear suspension, new clocks and lightweight wheels.

Those hoping for a V4 will be disappointed, as the engine appears almost identical to this year’s model. Also, there are no signs of any traction control – the switchgear has no extra buttons and the new dash has nothing to indicate there are any S1000RR-rivalling electronics.

The bike in the photos does not have any wheel speed sensor rings, so it seems Honda will continue to give customers the option to do without ABS.

The photos were posted on Honda’s Hong Kong Facebook page, but have now been taken down.

More news as we get it.

2011 Honda CBR 600cc New Sportsbike

Is Honda’s CBR600RR the perfect sportbike? Plenty of riders think so. And it’s easy to see why. First off, it offers a near magical combination of light weight, free-revving power, compliant suspension and all in a package that’s sized just right.

Next, the CBR600RR has been honed to perfection on the track, where it dominates the World Supersport championship scene. And then there’s the CBR’s awe-inspiring degree of Honda technology: tuned twin-spar frame, Programmed fuel injection, the Honda Electronic Steering Damper (HESD) and Honda’s available Combined ABS that all add up to put the CBR600RR way ahead of anything in the 600 class.

But at the end of the day, one thing stands out above all the rest: The CBR600RR is just a blast to ride. And isn’t that why you’re looking at sportbikes in the first place?

Breakthrough Braking
The CBR600RR’s Combined ABS is the first of its kind on a Supersport machine. The experts are unanimous: brakes like these are a huge step forward. They love them, and you’re going to love them even more. Find out how this revolutionary feature works.

A Leader on the track and off
The CBR600RR flat out OWNS the World Supersport Championship. Follow Honda’s string of victories and catch up on Team Honda’s racing highlights, including classes like MotoGP and Moto2 as well.

Honda Electronic Steering Damper
Compact, unobtrusive and there when you need it, the Honda Electronic Steering Damper (HESD) helps maintain smoothly predictable high-speed handling and low-speed maneuverability. It’s a huge breakthrough in predictable, responsive handling.

The Details make the Difference.
The CBR600RR is a perfect example of typical Honda industry-leading innovation. Combining tons of power, light weight, and refined, responsive handling with drop-dead good looks, it’s equally at home carving your favorite canyon as it is collecting wins on World Supersport podiums. That’s the CBR600RR—the ultimate middleweight sportbike experience.

Combined Anti-Lock Braking (C-ABS)
All-new, electronically controlled Combined ABS distributes brake force over both wheels, helping to maintain braking confidence in less than ideal conditions.

Electronic measurement of rider input on each brake lever permits application of only the front or rear brake in some cases, while the system combines both brakes in others.

Dual-Stage Fuel Injection
Two sets of injectors per cylinder ensure both low- and high-rpm performance.  You get near instantaneous high-rpm response, along with great low-rpm metering and clean running.

Ram Air
Wind resistance is a sportbike’s enemy.  The CBR600RR takes that high-pressure air and channels it through the ram air ducts mounted under the fairing’s chin to help boost engine performance.

Line-beam Headlights
Line-beam headlight features two-piece reflector design utilizing two H7 bulbs for optimum light distribution and unique compact design.  The result: the headlight helps you see better, and also helps make you visible to traffic.

Honda, Building a Third Plant In India

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, Honda’s wholly-owned motorcycle Indian subsidiary, has announced its intent to essentially double its capacity in the country’s rapidly growing motorcycle market. Expanding on the company’s second plant in the Tapukara Industrial Area of Rajasthan, HMSI also plans on now building a third production facility in the Bangalore area.

Both of these plants will produce 1.2 million units each when at full capacity (the second Tapukara plant currently does 600,000 units per year), bringing HMSI’s total production capacity in India to 4 million units per year. To put things in perspective, Honda’s production levels in India are about eight times the total motorcycle market in the United States of America…for all manufacturers.

With two plants in northern India, Honda chose the Banagalore area in the south of India as its third location so the company could more effectively serve the nation’s geographical motorcycle demands. The second-largest motorcycle market worldwide (China being the largest), over 11.3 million two-wheelers were sold in India in 2010. That figure represents a 30% increase over the previous year…you know, the same year where the rest of the motorcycle industry was collapsing in on itself like the Bay Bridge during the Loma Prieta earthquake.

Honda’s move with its second and soon-to-be-built third plant is a response to the overall rapid growth occurring in India, and is also an attempt to keep pace with HMSI’s own sales growth, which grew 40% last year alone. In case you’re still not sure how crazy things are for Honda in India, consider this factoid: each sales year, for the past 10 years, has been Honda’s best sales year in India.
