KTM 200 Duke Launched – Price Rs 1.17 lakh (Ex-Showroom Delhi)

Yes, It’s been launched at a killer introductory price of Rs 1,17,500 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) price tag and that clearly undercuts its immediate competition, the Honda CBR 250R and Yamaha R15 2.0

KTM 200 Duke Launched - Price Rs 1.17 lakh (Ex-Showroom Delhi)

Standing tall at 165 mm, the KTM 200 Duke gets its thrust from a 199.50 cc DOHC 4V engine that produces 25PS of power @ 10,000 rpm and churns out 19Nm of torque @ 8,000 rpm.  Although KTM’s decision to limit the red line on the 200 Duke at 135 km/h may disappoint some, the linear manner in which this power will be delivered all through the rev band will define its ultimate purpose for riders both in the city and on long distance runs.

The KTM engine is all-new, featuring light aluminium construction, double overhead camshafts with finger followers, four valves, fuel injection and liquid cooling. The engine is heavily oversquare, allowing a big, short light piston to work a short stroke to provide quick-revving power. A light forged crankshaft, similarly promotes the quick revving power delivery, sort of how dirtbike engines are designed today – brand perfect since KTM is traditionally known for dirt bikes.

Yes, KTM are already working out a range of aftermarket bits for the bike and its rider. KTM are recognized as having one of the widest and cleverest aftermarket catalogue in the business ranging from performance and race parts to cheeky things like their famous toaster, accelerate and brake slippers and yes, a full line of leashes, sweaters and what have you for your pets.

Launched at an introductory price of Rs 1.17 Lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) the KTM 200 Duke will be available across KTM dealerships in India. Orange will be the colour to look out for as Bajaj Pro-Biking outlets have now been replaced with their KTM brand, and will be your one stop shop for bookings, test rides and purchase information about the Duke 200

Bajaj KTM 200 Duke Launching Today, January 24th 2012

Once launched, the KTM 200 Duke will certainly be one of the most exciting launches of 2012 with its radical styling complimented by an equally competent short-stroke 200cc liquid-cooled fuel injected single cylinder motor that is mated to a six-speed transmission. The engine packaged inside a powder-coated steel tubular frame with WP suspensions taking charge of the damping duties on both ends. The brakes are from Brembo’s sub-brand Bybre, while the tyres are expected to be supplied by MRF. With its impressive power-to-weight ratio and India-friendly ergonomics, the KTM 200 Duke is certainly one machine that is set to give a solid push to the premium motorcycle segment in the country.

Moreover, the Duke is manufactured here in our India already at Bajaj’s chakan plant, which is being exported. Already, a lot number of enthusiasts are waiting for this day so that they can own one of these masterpieces in their garage. Mr Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto said, “We expect this initiative to bring enormous energy into our system. Customers who visit our showrooms will hopefully be impressed with what they see and overall sentiment will be lifted in the process.”

However, it is expected that for their 10th anniversary we will be presented with its new range of renowned model, our pulsar on January 30thof this month!  By the middle of this year, it is likely to launch an all new product, probably our Discover. While talking about the new pulsar range, Mr.Bajaj stated that “I am confident that the new Pulsar will be the most stunning sports bike in the world. It is also my belief that as much as DTS-i took the market by storm, the new technology in the Pulsar will shake up the market this decade.”

So, the Bajaj is aiming high, their strategy is to be a bike specialist and they believe they have every reason for it.

KTM 200 DUKE: OVERVIEW

KTM Duke 200 is launching on 24th (Tuesday) January  2012 in Delhi.

The eagerly anticipated KTM 200 Duke will be backed by the sales and service might of Bajaj Probiking. It boasts remarkably potent specifications, which is why we couldn’t wait to get behind the handlebars and tell you how it all comes together as a package.

KTM 200 DUKE OVERVIEW

Butch, lean and aggressive all at the same time, the striking 200 Duke proudly shows off its KTM genes. Black and trademark orange are the predominant colours, while sharp angles and steep creases define this modern naked bike. Every part is visibly pared down to the minimum, which allows the 200 to live up to KTM’s ‘Ready to Race’ tag and tip the scales at just 136kg. The front mudguard is sporty and bolted on above elegant, slim-spoke alloy wheels. A bikini fairing guards the engine sump, while the engine itself is exposed within a trellis steel frame. A stubby stainless steel exhaust box sits neatly tucked away underneath.

There’s a chin-set auxiliary light below the headlight, while a compact digital instrument cluster sits over it. Fussy at best, only speed is prominently displayed and easily read and we found ourselves struggling to view the tiny, cascading rev counter, apart from other information relayed by the dinky readout. The 200 Duke comes with Bajaj-typical illuminated switchgear — which works with crisp clicks, dimpled palm grips, a comfortable set of levers and good mirrors. The 10.5-litre fuel tank offers deeply recessed, snug thigh supports. And the riding saddle is roomy and well-padded, although the same can’t be said for the compromised pillion seat.

200 Duke: Lightness rediscovered. Maximum riding fun, powerful propulsion and optimum user value thanks to thoroughbred motorcycle technology. Featherweight chassis with high-quality components and first-class brakes. And dynamic cornering fun guaranteed with the surprisingly full-bodied and lively power of the cultivated, new four-stroke single-cylinder with injection, six-speed transmission and low fuel consumption. Precisely what you’d expect from a genuine KTM.

The 200 Duke has everything that distinguishes a genuine KTM – from the high-quality chassis components to the multi-function cockpit, which even keeps you up to date with fuel consumption and remaining range. The extensive KTM PowerParts range gives you the option of adding your own individual style.

No minor development: Based on the state-of-the-art, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder four-stroke engine of the 125 Duke, the 200 Duke’s power unit has been changed substantially to generate 60 % more displacement and correspondingly fully developed power. New camshafts, bigger valves, a larger piston with a completely new crank drive, new airbox and new exhaust layout. It all results in 19 kW (25 hp) and incredibly punchy torque, even at lower revs – with irresistible smoothness.

The intricate engine design, state-of-the-art injection electronics and the close-ratio, six-speed transmission not only help the 200 Duke to achieve impressive performance, but also moderate fuel consumption. Thanks to the regulated catalytic converter, it produces only minimal emissions

The shapely 11 l fuel tank on the 200 Duke not only provides the rider with perfect knee contact, but also with a range of many kilometres, even when ridden hard, thanks to the economical engine.

We expect the KTM 200 Duke to return close to 30kpl for every litre of fuel. Bajaj will offer a variety of KTM merchandise as optional with this bike, including a pair of tasteful knuckle guards.

There is no two ways about it, the KTM 200 Duke is a very special motorcycle.

KTM Duke 200 – Launching on 3rd January 2012

News of the KTM-Bajaj alliance churning out an India-only 200cc model has been doing the rounds of the internet ever since the first KTM 125 was shown last year at the EICMA fair

KTM Duke 200 - Launching on 3rd January 2012

The KTM Duke 200 that is widely speculated will be launched on 3rd of  January 2012 across Bajaj Probiking showrooms in India. The KTM Duke 200 will be priced at INR 1.25-1.31 Lakhs which is in my humble opinion is a steal!

India’s first Duke comes powered by a 200cc, single-cylinder, four-stroke, four valves, liquid-cooled and fuel injected engine. Bore and Stroke measurements are an ultra short stroke 72mm x 49mm, so expect the 200 to display a big affinity for high revs. Its bantamweight kerb weight of 137kg will make the 200 Duke considerably lighter than every Indian rival in its class, and 25bhp of peak power makes for a solid power-to-weight ratio of 182.4bhp per tonne. Expect a close ratio, six-speed, one-down, five-up shifting transmission.

The 200 Duke will carry the bulk of its weight low, including an under-slung exhaust system that sits just below the swing arm pivot section, to keep centre of gravity down for optimal handling. It also comes with 150mm travel suspension front and rear, with tough 43mm upside down forks in front and a mono-shock rear system, complemented by an ultra lightweight, inverted die-cast alloy swing arm.

Sporty, low profile tyres will wrap around 17 inch rims front and rear, a 110 section in front and substantial 150 section rear unit. Brakes are a 300mm disc in front gripped by four-piston, radial mounted calipers and a 230mm disc at the rear.

KTM’s top boss Stefan Pierer has confirmed that the India-centric KTM 200 will make its debut at the 2012 Auto Expo and there will be a bigger capacity 350cc model that will be launched the year after. Pierer also confirmed that the Mattighofen-based firm will introduce a 200cc variant of the KTM 125 in the Indian market during the 11th Auto Expo, which will be held in Delhi from January 7, 2012 to January 11, 2012.

He also made an announcement that a bigger 350cc variant, again an India-specific model, is also in the pipeline and it is expected to hit the market by 2013. Designed and manufactured by Bajaj Auto in Chakan near Pune, the KTM 125 model is built around a versatile platform that allows incorporating bigger capacity engines in the framework without significantly hiking the manufacturing costs yet consorting with the respective markets.

The Pro-biking showrooms will all be remodeled to sport KTM Logos. Also, there will be no Bajaj logos on the KTM Duke 200 and it will be sold as a separate entity.
